I know that when you say Aberdeen, a lot of people think, cold and grey! But you know what they say, “home is where the heart is” and a serious part of my heart has been in Aberdeen- the granite city for a while now. Anyhow, once upon a time, I visited! And I have nothing but fun, beautiful and warm memories- by warm I mean about 16 degrees at the height of summer! Coming from a climate where the coldest harmattan is about 24 degrees, this was not funny!
I share a few pictures and a few fun facts below:
The Marischal College is the second largest granite building in the world and is the seat of the Aberdeen City Council. The construction of the modern college building began in 1835 and was completed in the 1999’s.
It wasn’t all granite though! We went In search of treasures for the little one and found this delightful, though far out-of-town place called the “Story-book Glen”, where the Disney and Enid Blyton characters could be found! See:
A note of warning: Story-book Glen is only fun if you make it so; large grounds, have a picnic, run with the kids… but it is no Disney Land and if your kids are not very young and just love being around you, you are likely to get a lot of whinning about the lifelessness of the characters. We had an absolute blast though, it was scenic and beautiful, the characters reminded me of my childhood and lunch at the restaurant overlooking the pond was good!
Okay! Just sharing! What have you been up to? Leave a comment and don’t forget to be awesome!
