Of lines, vines and happy times! Casa in 2014!

Its official, I love Casa del Papa. More like I love what it represents for me. Peace, serenity, the chance to download and a chance to re-strategise. Map out a plan and determine a path forward. We would normally visit Casa del Papa at the end of the year and use that time as a “retreat” to plan our next year. This year we did it differently and went in the new year. It was absolutely amazing! And I wanted to share my photos with you:

First view as you enter the resort! That rush of sea breeze, the sound of the waves, the joy of the kids! Everything becomes right with the world- right as you enter.

I continued to walk! In my pj's and bathroom slippers! No cares, no airs, just me, nature, my prayers and the yearnings of my heart that won't let me go...

Lounged on these lovely sheep skin lounge beds afterwards. I wish I could take this home with me.

My gift from the African spa!

When I got home, I opened it to find that it was the Spa Karite's specially made black soap and a tub of lotion for the face, made in a little earthen ware pot! Being an African woman, I had to go and show my husband so that he does not see them and start to wonder if I've chosen to foray into juju. LOL!

I love the lights in the dinner. I love the details of this place. How everything is natural and made of material that blends with the environment...

I don’t know this fellow but my heart yearned with his. On one of my morning strolls, I saw him come in with his surf board and he waited. He waited some more, the ocean chose that time to be calm, I stood from shore and wished a wave will come. He swam further in, wishing a wave will come! I smiled as I took the 3rd photo a wave came in and he took it! In 2014, may the waves come in for you, and may you be poised to ride the waves!

On our way out of Casa del Papa, we decided to drive along the scenic beach road, rather than the concrete highway (LOL) and we discovered new sights:

A local beach side amusement park… Who says it has to be Disney Land to be fun… This is the dream that a future Disney type resort, will stand in this place…

A nice abandoned beach house. I am wondering what the story is.
On our way into Ouidah, the town where Casa del Papa is in. we noticed these line of people holding a line which dropped into the sea, I assumed it was a fishing line.

All the lines we saw, ended up tied to tree trunks.

When we passed again in the evening, we saw it was indeed a fishing net and that everyone who was in the line shared in the catch at the end of the day.

She didn't fit in with the rest- notice the fish in the middle? Still flapping and didn't belong in any pile! I felt her!

Thank you for reading! I am excited about 2014! I know that everyday of life is a new chance to re-set, to do things differently , to start again. Every new day is a gift, but at the beginning of the year, it feels like you have a blank canvass. Like the opportunities are limitless, like it can all happen for you,  and this year I pray it does. I hope you take out time to contemplate, to plan. I hope you decide to change and do what is necessary to execute the plans. I hope you seek wisdom and wise counsel. I hope you truly live! Live fully without holding yourself back. I really want the best for you.

I’ll end this by sharing my most prevalent thought in 2014, thus far (all 6 days of it), I shared it on my Facebook page earlier in the year, it is that “in 2014, let’s break the box shall we? Don’t think outside the box! There is no box! Be original, be authentic, let yourself soar! Become better than your best! Take off the brakes and all the limits! There is no box! Be authentically you!” Ciao!

  1. Awwwwwwwwwww! This is beautiful & hilarious. My colleague thinks I’ve gone bonkers with how loud I laughed at the part where you had to show your hubby the earthen ‘juju’ pot.

I’m surely going to Casa del Papa again. I hope to take my Mum with me, & possibly the whole family. I still see that place in my dreams. It will always be beautiful.

2014 is indeed that year when I make resolutions & keep them (starting with a vacation). Surprisingly, I paid in my first ‘Vacation saving money’ into my allotted vacation savings account today. *whoop whoop*.

    1. Yaay! Way to go Muna, that’s definitely a step in the right direction! Your parents will love it there! Ha! That pot, once I opened it, I could just picture the family meeting, it’ll be on Saturday after I come in from the salon, I’ll be wondering why my parents cars and all my in laws cars are in the compound, I’ll enter, see my mum looking sad… My dad will say “you have disgraced me”… I’ll be confused, saying “what did I do? What did I do?” Then someone will throw the pot at me- “what is this!” … LOL! Muna, as this Nollywood-like scene passed through my head, I thought, “better to go and show him o!”

      1. Hahahahahahahahahaha. No be small Nollywood matter O! You did right. I’d be shocked too if I had stumbled on that pot. They have lots of creepy memorabilias in that town. Some are very artistic, others are downright scary.
